Is a pit required to have a residential elevator? And if so, how deep?
Not necessarily. Although most elevators require a pit, there are a couple of models available that do not require a pit. The pitless elevators open new options for installation of elevators in existing applications without costly slab cuts and reinforcing. For new homes, a pit depth of 8" maximum is usually sufficient.
